This edition of The Soul Shakedown Party is a special one! To celebrate my birthday, I have two of my favorite DJs and good friends, Dennis Owens & Monalisa Murray, joining me on the decks. With the Good Foot and Motown On Mondays (MOM LA), respectively, these two have left an indelible mark on southern California club culture and have been massive influences on my own musical development. Music Of My Mind is LA’s newest live storytelling event; delving into the creative process of some of today’s most acclaimed musicians. The debut event, hosted by Nick Pagan, features modern-soul phenom Kelly Finnigan, bandleader of the Bay Area-based indie-soul group The Monophonics.

Friday the 19th, Club Soulside celebrates 17 years of bringing rare soul, northern soul, and reggae to the people. The anniversary festivities take place at Di Piazza’s in Long Beach and include a special live performance by The Violet Mindfield (featuring Clifton on keys, guitar, percussion, etc). The night kicks off at 9p. There is a $10 cover and is 21+ w/ID. Come get down at one of the nights that keeps the spirit of 60s subculture alive.
